Ironwood Farm is the largest Fjord breeder in Virginia, but most of our sales horses are youngsters. We have been active in consignment sales for other owners and breeders. We know the Fjord breed, we know the market and we are selective on what horses we will sell.
If you are a buyer, you can be assured that Ironwood Farm will:

Collect and provide a history of the horse’s ownership, health history and training

Have the horse evaluated in riding or driving by a knowledgeable horse professional

Provide accurate information on the age, height and abilities of a horse

Assure that a current Coggins and registration papers are transferred to the buyer

Provide videos, photos and answer questions

Assist with any shipping arrangements
We have bought and sold over 100 horses in the last two decades. We look for a suitable match for the buyer and the horse, It is our hope that the horse and buyer will remain together for many years. We only sell consignment horses that are present on our farm.

Provide a professional rider to demo ride the horse for buyers

Give your horse regular care and attention including keeping the horse in work as needed

Screen buyers and provide you information on their suitability as a match for your horse

Manage the PPE and shipping arrangements
Again, we are looking for good homes for all horses. We are seeking good matches between the buyer and a horse.
As horse people, we feel that the horse must “win” in any sale. The horse needs to go to a situation where it is likely to be successful.
Current Mature Sale Horses
We take limited consignments due to our focus on breeding and education
events. We rarely have a trained adult horse for sale from our own program.
We do have one consignment currently at Ironwood Farm.
Erika Linnea, A Fjord You Can Trust
Erika Linnea (NFHR Reg. #09-6150-M) is a 17-year-old Norwegian Fjord mare who is retiring from breeding and looking for the next chapter of her life.

We are acting as the owner's agent and know this mare well. Our stallion, Blitzen, is her sire, and she inherited his exceptional work ethic and kind disposition. Her owner has made the difficult decision to step back from Fjord ownership, so Linnea is simply looking for a loving new home where she can continue to be enjoyed.
This is not a project horse. She is a finished, dependable partner who is ready to give her next owner years of enjoyable riding and companionship.

Horses Available Through Helen Hayn
Parker has been in consistent professional training since summer 2024 and is progressing well. This athletic gelding would make an excellent Pony Club mount, fox hunter, or dressage partner. He is best suited for an advanced teen or a petite, experienced adult, as he has a powerful canter and is learning to relax through all gaits. While not a beginner’s ride, he is a fun and rewarding partner for a capable rider. Parker enjoys hacking out in company and working in the arena with other horses. He has had recent successes at schooling dressage shows at the introductory level.
His exact breeding is unknown—possibly part Welsh pony—but he is as cute as they come! Unregistered Fjords are eligible for competition and awards through USDF, NDPC, and the Norwegian Fjord Horse Alliance.

Helen has been training and showing Fjords in dressage and eventing since 2010. She has ridden, trained, and shown dozens of Fjords. Helen has evented at the advanced level (FEI) and has her silver medal in dressage from the USDF. Helen has won numerous awards showing Fjords in dressage, eventing and at evaluations.
