Producing Norwegian Fjord Horses since 2000
Welcome to Ironwood Farm
Ironwood Farm has been serving the VA horse community since 1998. We specialize in breeding, showing, and selling Norwegian Fjord horses. We are the largest Norwegian Fjord farm in the Commonwealth and one of the largest on the East Coast. Our farm is located in Virginia in northern Culpeper County between the towns of Warrenton and Culpeper. We are about 75 miles from Washington, DC. We have nearly 132 acres of rolling hills, woods and streams.

Ironwood Farm has been actively involved in using Fjords in various capacities since the farm was started. Our Fjords were part of the Culpeper County Parks and Recreation beginner riding lesson program. Although we no longer teach beginner lessons, many children got their start riding Fjords. We hope we created a lifelong love for the breed.

We have been active in showing, specifically in dressage and eventing, but also driving and draft competitions. The versatility of the Norwegian Fjord horse is amazing. We like getting out and about showing what a Fjord can do. We also participate in expos such as the Culpeper Farm Tour.

Our Story
A Norwegian Fjord Adventure

Tom and Margaret met their first Fjord, a gelding named Troll, on a riding vacation in France. Veterans of riding and owning a number of horses of varying skills and quality, here was a breed that checked all the boxes. Not too tall, yet versatile, calm and jolly. Plus a Fjord has horse movement not pony movement. Tom and Margaret were hooked!

Of course, as soon as they bought their farm, they started acquiring Fjords. And the saying, "Fjords are like potato chips -- you can't have just one" was true. They started with two bred mares, had 4 horses within a year, and just kept getting more. It helped that Fjord people generally are some of the nicest, most collaborative horse owners around.

Over the last 25 years, we have had over 75 Fjords foals born on the farm, bought and sold nearly 100 Fjords, gone to countless shows, enjoyed some wonderful experiences with Fjords, and met many fantastic horse people. Our farm journey has been one of joy.
