Our Breeding Services

Horse breeding is not a simple task.  We have over 25 years experience breeding as a stallion owners and a mare owners (to outside stallions).  To date we have had nearly 100 foals born on the farm, the vast majority are registered Fjords. We are fortunate to have excellent support from our reproductive veterinarians.

We understand that outside mare owners take care in selecting a stallion and want a live foal.  We definitely remember the disappointment of attempted breedings that did not result in a pregnancy.  While we cannot guarantee that every mare will conceive, we do promise to do everything within reason to assure that a mare settles in foal.

Important Considerations Related to Breeding

Our Contract and Breeding Focus

We tailor our Stallion Service Contract to the mare owner's needs where possible.  We offer a live foal guarantee (LFG) for live cover and AI cooled shipped semen.  If we offer frozen semen, there will be no LFG for it.  We do encourage outside mares to ship to our farm for live cover breeding because that is the most effective way of breeding.  Frankly, AI has lower results in draft breeds and the cost is significantly more.  Contact us with your questions about how breeding with one of our farm stallions would work for your mare.

If you are new to the Fjord breed, please understand that it is a closed breed book where crossbreeding is discouraged in the United States.   We only accept registered Fjord mares for breeding.  There also are registry rules that vary to some extent on the inbreeding is allowed.  Our aim is that every foal sired by our stallions is registerable.

We believe that performance is an important aspect for a Fjord, so we participate in breed evaluations (when available) and in horse shows to document our horses' accomplishments.  As breeders we want to show that our horses can perform and produce performance results in their offspring.   This type of program takes many years.   We have achieved  it with Blitzen and are beginning the journey with Bravo and Triton.

Ironwood Blitzen

Stud Fee for 2026:  Live cover or collect fresh semen only. $700; includes $100 nonrefundable booking fee.  Blitzen no longer ships reliably for AI.  We have had no problems with AI fresh insemination.   His semen is good, but as an older stallion, it is challenged by the commercial transport process. Blitzen has covered 2 outside mares live cover for 2027 foals.   He also has a 2026 foal arriving from one of our own mares.

Field breeding involves leaving a mare with us for breeding.  Our contract offers 60 days of no board fees for a mare to field breed.   We will coordinate with a vet for a pregnancy check (vet expenses billed to the mare owner),

Chlans Bravo

Stud Fee for 2026:  Live cover only. $700; includes $100 nonrefundable booking fee. Bravo is being trained to collect on a breeding dummy and his semen will be tested to assess whether he is a candidate for cooled shipped semen.  This AI option may be available in 2027.   We are pleased with the 2026 foals Bravo has produced with our own horses.  Blitzen has covered 3  farm owned mares by live cover for 2027 foals.

Bravo has been started under saddle in 2026 and have a show career on 2027.

Moregarden's Triton

Stud Fee for 2026:  Live cover only.  $700; includes $100 nonrefundable booking fee.  He is being trained to collect on a breeding dummy and his semen will be tested to assess whether he is a candidate for cooled shipped semen.  The initial collection suggests that only AI with fresh semen insemination would be effective but we are testing further. This AI option may be available in 2027.   We are pleased with the 2026 foal Triton has produced with our own horses.  To date, he has settled 1 fa.rm mare and  two outside mares.  Other mares are in process.

Triton will be started under saddle in the fall of 2026 and have a show career on 2027.
