Ironwood Blitzen (S1, G1, V and E) was born on our farm on July 6, 2001. His dam is SF Saska, a mare we bought through Carol Rivoire’s consignment program. We had the pleasure of spending a week at Beaver Dam Farm’s driving program and driving Carol’s stallion, Gjest, for the session. Gjest’s forwardness, flexibility, and work ethic were amazing.
Blitzen has shown versatility in riding, driving and draft performance. He has completed all the performance awards available the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry and is one of the few Fjords with this level of accomplishment. He has completed his Silver and Gold Medallions of Quality in driving, draft, and English riding. He has completed the Versatility Award for a high standard of achievement in these three disciplines. Blitzen has also finished his Excellence Award for performance in breed and open horse shows. All his excellence points were earned in PERFORMANCE in riding, driving and draft. As with his other awards, Blitzen earned points in a variety of disciplines: dressage, eventing, driving, and draft. He was shown by a host of people in the process. It was a real family and community effort, plus he is a REALLY fun horse to show.
Blitzen is regularly competing in dressage at Training and First levels. He is eventing at Beginner Novice and winning in recognized horse trails. Blitzen won the Area II Beginner Novice Championship for 2010. He finished 2010 by earning the US Eventing Association’s Blue Ribbon Award and Silver Medallion Award in performance in eventing. He pinned at every horse trial he entered and qualified for the USEA’s prestigious American Eventing Championship.

Blitzen has an outstanding personality. Blitzen is easy to handle, amiable and quiet. When he is at a show, people are amazed that he is a breeding stallion. He is exceptionally well behaved with whomever handles him. He passes on his good mind, work ethic and temperament to his offspring. They are quiet and trainable.
He throws good movement and an ability to perform. He has produced some nice babies -- 14 colts and 5 fillies. Thirteen of the foals are brown duns, three of the foals are RED duns out of brown dun mares and three foals are white duns out of a white dun mare.
Stud Fee for 2011: $500; includes $100 nonrefundable booking fee. Balance due when mare confirms pregnant LFG. Blitzen is licensed for AI and has successfully bred via transported semen.
