MARES

SASDRIVESF Saska (DOB 4/11/92) is a Norwegian Fjord from imported Dutch lines. She’s 14.1, rides and drives. Her movement is fantastic. She is used on our lesson program. Saska is our alpha mare and worshipped as a goddess by the other horses.  We appreciate her as the dam of our stallion, Ironwood Blitzen. His ability to perform is a tribute to her own athleticism.

MADHEADFC Madellin (DOB 5/1/98) is a rare white dun. There are only about 40 +/- in the United States. However, she does not stay white for long. She spends much of her time rolling and working on being a brown dun. Maddie has been used in lessons and has become quite a show horse. She stunned us by winning a reserve championship at her second show. MADHELEN She has been evaluated as a high red ribbon Fjord on conformation. She has produced three lovely foals, Ironwood Helena (white dun), Ironwood Kristiana and Ironwood Lordalen, the latter being a rare white dun stallion.

TOMHELLEHelle (pronounced Hailey) (DOB 4/7/98) is one of the sweetest horses around. Good thing, too because she is named after the Norse goddess of death. She rides and drives like a champ. She loves people and never misses the chance for a pat. Helle is one of our best of our lesson program. She recently took the championship in her division at a local show. Helle has produced two foals: Ironwood Danne Ekstrom (red dun) and Ironwood Julian.

MABHELLE

SERHEADSerina (5/4/79) is perfect. Seriously, she is perfect. Serina is an aged mare who has been “there and done” at least 12 times over. She was bred by Gene Bauer on his Hestedalen Farm in Illinois. Gene was one of the most important American breeders and promoters of Fjords and he certainly produced some outstanding horses.

Serina proved this point at the 2007 NFHR Virginia Evaluation. She was 28 and the oldest Fjord horse ever evaluated under the US system. Serina is the oldest by 6 or 7 years. She received a high red in conformation (77). She went on to get a blue (85) in intro driving, a blue (80) in intro English riding and a red (71.25) in advanced English riding. In each test, she had the highest score for that test. She ended up earning a Silver Medallion of Quality, Level 2 and a Gold Medallion of Quality, Level 4.

BLUEGIRLSerina can tote a beginner around but be able to perform well for an intermediate rider. She rides, she drives, and she does everything with such calmness. We actually have 2 mares on the farm with the same name, but we would never thing of changing a thing. She’s not for sale and never will be -- horses like Serina are worth their weight in gold -- and she does give riding lessons. SJUMP

CONES

ELLIHEADLynnhaven Elli (DOB 4/4/99) is the farm busybody and pest. She is interested in EVERYTHING. She’s the funniest horse on the farm and Elli knows it. This horse needs her on TV show. A daughter of Malcom Locke, she is a blue ribbon winner at the 2001 VA Fjord Evaluation in conformation. Elli has produced three foals. We plan to get her off the “broodmare” track in the next year and see if we can work on some performance medallions. Elli has fabulous movement and deserves some recognition.

Lupin (4/26/1995) and Perle (4/10/2002)

We are pleased to announce the lease to two high quality mares, Lupin and Perle. Lupin is the daughter of our own Serina and has achieved the silver medallion level one and gold medallion level 2 performance award. Lupin also has received the NFHR’s Versatility and Excellence Award. She is one of the few Fjords in North America to have acheived this level of success in performance. Even more impressive is that along the way, Lupin has had six foals. We thank Catherine Lassesen for the opportunity to lease Lupin and we are looking forward to successful show seasons as well as a future foal. We also are delighted with the opportunity to lease Perle, Lupin’s daughter and Serina’s grand daughter from Kathy Monroe. Pictures will follow shortly.

GELDINGS

Ironwood Crow Hreidar (5/31/04)

CROWHEADOur latest addition to the riding program was born on our farm in 2004. Crow is a half brother to our stallion, Blitzen.  They share Saska as their dam.  He is by the gray dun stallion, Ulend, and is a lovely example of a draftier type Fjord. He was been started under saddle without issue. In fact, he has no issues with anything whatsoever. Crow is Mr. Mellow. He will debut in leadline lessons this year. We recently took him the NFHR Virginia Evaluation where he received a red ribbon (74.5) in conformation. The evaluators felt that his conformation score would improve with maturity. Next time, we’ll do performance tests.

TROTCROW

Short Creek’s Quinn (6/29/03)

SAGESage is a sweet young gelding from Canada. We had him sent to us as a consignment horse and decided to keep him because he was such a nice guy. He’s working in the lesson program and will be learning how to drive. Sage has a curious personality. He is always the first to the fenceline for a pat or a treat.

H.D. Sebastian (7/17/94)SEB

Sebastian is a half sibling to Helle, sharing the same dam, SF Signe. He’s shorter and rounder. He’s laid back, a stallwart of our lesson program who can go for hours and hours, and a solid citizen. We are pleased to have him on the farm and he’s a keeper!
